At the opening Margaret E. Ward, M.D. of ClearInk.ie praised the innovative work of O'Donnell as a celebration not only of court art but also 'the crucial work of the criminal justice system in the maintenance of civil society'. Judge Carney lamented the absence of court art over the decades and said that O'Donnell is always welcome in his court and that his work is a continuation of 'a centuries old practice in common law'. Minister for Arts, Culture and Gaeltacht, Mr. Jimmy Deenihan T.D., said O'Donnell continues a Kerry tradition of fine art and praised his 'delicate skill' and ability to capture the essence of individuals in 90 seconds. He acknowledged the artist's other contribution to Kerry having founded a school and a triathlon club and also his love for Banna Strand describing it as the artist's elixir. He also acknowledged O'Donnell's affection for Roger Casement who is an inspiration having come ashore on Banna Strand in 1916 and endured a difficult end through the courts. Minister Deenihan recalled O'Donnell's recent ejection for Dail Eireann and proposed that the law banning sketching in Dail Eireann be changed so that it is in line with the courts. The exhibition is on show for the month of May at the Distillery Building, Bar Council of Ireland, Church St., with free admission.
