The Casement Exhibition - 'The Stations of Roger Casement'
'The Stations of Roger Casement' is O'Donnell's most recent artistic work
(See Press Release at foot of this page).
The Work
The work comprises 14 images in pen and ink on a 20 foot scroll of calico - in two separate lengths of 10 feet each. It chronicles the final period of the life of Irish patriot Roger Casement - his landing on Banna Strand, his arrest, detention, trial, execution and the repatriation of his remains and their burial in Ireland. Historical documents and contemporary images have informed the work with John MacGuiggan S.C. providing much advice and practical assistance to the artist.
Exhibition (Kerry, Dublin, London)
The Minister for Arts, Mr. Jimmy Deenihan, T.D., will officially open the initial exhibition of this work in Listowel, Co. Kerry on Saturday, February 11th. Dr. Colm O'Doherty of Tralee IT will be the keynote speaker. Pianist and Feis Cheoil winner Dr. Bróna Geary will play a piano recital at this event.
The work will also be on exhibition in Dublin in late Spring where it will be unveiled by His Honour, Mr. Justice Joseph Finnegan, and later at the Fourt Courts where it will be unveiled by the Chief Justice. It is also planned that it will be on display for a period at Kerry Museum along side Casement artefacts recently received from the British Government.
The work be exhibited in London at which Professor Conor Gearty of the London School of Economics will speak.
